Who
are you?
We are long term residents of Taiwan from the UK and US. We have been
guiding and writing about Taiwan for several years.
---
Are
you experts?
We are not experts, but enthusiastic amateurs. We know a reasonable amount
in various spheres - birds, entomology, botany, Taiwan culture/history/geography/politics.
What we are expert on is arranging smooth flowing logistics - getting
clients to the places they want to be in comfort and safety.
---
Can
you speak Chinese?
Yes, very well. English is our first language. We have lived here for
over 10 years.
---
What
is a typical group size?
We prefer the flexibility of groups of 4-6 people, but happily deal with
larger or smaller numbers.
---
Can
I request to see non-nature related sites?
Yes, as long as everyone in the group wants to too. Taiwan has a lot to
offer.
---
I
am coming to Taiwan alone, can I have a private tour?
Yes, tell us what you need and we should be able to work something out.
---
Isn't
Taiwan crowded, and full of factories?
Some parts of the west coast are highly developed but much of the island
is unpopulated pristine national park wilderness.
---
Do
Taiwanese care about the environment and nature?
Yes, attitudes are very progressive. Most people are eager defenders of
the natural world and delighted that visitors come to admire it.
---
Will
2/3 days be enough to cover all the island?
Not really. Taiwan may seem small compared to other countries but the
complex terrain means there are lots of diverse habitats to explore. Two
weeks gives you a very good introduction.
---
Where
will we be staying? What is the food like? I'm vegetarian.
We mostly stay in very comfortable cabins or hotels close to the chosen
habitat. Food is usually the excellent local variety of Chinese food supplemented
with more familiar snacks and fruit. Good vegetarian options are available.
---
Useful
field guides?
---
Further
information?
There
are many excellent field guides available, most though are only in Chinese
with Latin/Common names listed.

We are revising
this website, and will be posting lots of this information soon. In
the meantime email me, Richard, at taiwanecotours@gmail.com
