This is a list of useful books, websites, and videos related to Taiwan's flora and fauna. Many items may be purchased at http://www.booksfromtaiwan.com Although many resources are primarily written in Chinese, most have useful pictures and scientific (Latin) and common (English) names listed. Availability is hit-and-miss, sometimes it is difficult finding out where they are on sale, some may be out of print, or only sold (or given away free) at certain bookstores and institutions. We have learned to build up our library at any chance available! ------If wanting a set of guides that covers things quite well and are very easy to carry at all times, we recommend those published by the Wild Bird Society of Taipei. The series covers birds, reptiles, flowers, beetles, butterflies, dragonflies, tree, and frogs. For more detail - and larger pockets consider those books published by Owl, Commonwealth, Morning Star and Yuan-Liou. Many tourist centers and national park offices often have useful leaflets. Be sure to ask - they may be hidden in a cupboard. Additionally many local governments have guides to the ecology of their particular city or county - too many to list here, contact us with specific needs. Soon we may make a list of the other nature-related merchandise on sale at various places in Taiwan - hats, t-shirts, pens, badges, postcards, mugs...and much more! ------ |
